Precision Welding was born out of the desire to take ordinary things and make them faster, better and stronger. Precision Welding’s founder, David J Gilkeson, was born during the golden era of Santa Barbara and naturally gravitated toward the burgeoning hot rod culture that was so prominent back in those wondrous years. Frustrated with the sparse availability and high expense of welding shops to modify his hot rods, the obvious option was to start his own company; he set up shop in his grandmother’s garage. David’s love of the craft fostered the growth of a business that became something more than a hobby. It became apparent that his aptitude and knowledge were sought after in the aircraft industry, residential and commercial construction, bicycle fabrication and prototype ingenuity. Being versatile, knowledgeable, and reliable were the foundation and ethos with which Precision Welding has become one of the premier fabrication shops in the Tri Counties. Precision Welding utilizes superior equipment and highly trained professionals to ensure that they meet and exceed the unique welding and fabrication needs of each and every customer.
A native of Ireland, Tom went through the European journeyman program building everything from ships to nano-systems components. Needless to say, no job is too big or too small for Tom’s incredible attention to detail. Dave, the owner of Precision Welding, sponsored Tom and his family’s immigration to the United States in 2001. His dedication to the craft is a veritable asset to the company’s past and its future. When Tom isn’t fabricating precision parts, he is either riding motorcycles or running marathons.
A Santa Barbara native who grew up in his father’s steel fabrication shop building race cars and developing steel fabricated products, Brian brings an attention to detail and the ability to think outside of the box that can facilitate any project from start to finish. A long long time ago in 1997 he began working at Precision Welding. When he isn’t busy with all of his Precision Welding responsibilities, he is spending time with his family either at the beach or riding motorcycles.
A native of Nayarit, Mexico, Arturo immigrated to the United States to realize his dream of being the next real life MacGyver. The most suitable trade for creating ingenious fixes for apparently impossible problems was of course welding. His ability to think on his feet and solve unusual problems in a non-conventional manner is a valuable resource for both our customers and us. When Arturo isn’t working and singing at the same time, you can find him spending time with his daughter, or riding horses in the mountains.
A native of Durango Mexico, Felipe immigrated to the United States when he was in grade school and started refining his metalworking craft immediately after high school. He has become our number 1 welder with a work ethic instilled in him to be willing to do whatever it takes to finish a task. We are please and proud to announce that Felipe became an American citizen in 2015. When he isn’t laying down beautiful welds, you can find Felipe at any swap meet within a 100 mile radius.
A native of Iowa, Larry started fabricating in 1963. Becoming a valued member of the Navy’s SeaBees, Larry had a welding stinger in one hand and an M-16 in the other while fighting for freedom in Vietnam. He continued his military career by building steel structures for the Navy at military bases all around the world. After military retirement, Larry became a member of the Precision Welding team in 2002. His lifetime of experience in the trade is a valuable asset for both the company and our customers. When Larry isn’t hard at work with structural steel you can find him either nurturing his garden, or shopping for tools at Lowe’s.
